The collection includes books on various aspects of Zoroastrianism
Zoroastrianism, one of the world’s oldest religions, ascribed to the teachings of the prophet Zoroaster or Zarathustra. His teachings developed into a movement and Zoroastrianism became a prominent religion in Ancient Persia. At the time of muslim invasion of Persia, Iranians chose to preserve their religious identity by fleeing to India.
Bhavans’ Library has a collection of books on various aspects of Zoroastrianism. The most important texts of the religion are those of the Avesta which includes the writings of Zarathustra known as the Gathas. The collection includes books on the Gathas of Zarathustra, religious beliefs and practices, traditions and wisdom. There are books on the history of Iranian exodus from Persia and their survival and settlement in India.
The collection also includes biographical sketches of prominent industrialists, reformers and philanthropists like Pherozshah Mehta, Dadabhai Naoroji, K R Cama and more. There are books in gujarati too on the history of Iran, gujarati poetry by parsi poets like Ardeshar Khabardar, parsi gujarati phrases and so on.
