Search Guidelines

Bhavan's Library Catalogue is available online for all to browse. Currently, the collection has over 50,000 book records across subjects and languages. More records of books, bound volumes, etc. are being added on a regular basis. Following are the guidelines to effectively search the Catalogue and also give users an overview of the wide range of subjects that the library collection includes.

• Availability
  • The Catalogue of the Library is available online 24x7 and can be searched by various parameters like author, subject, keywords, etc.
• Search by Subject/Collection
  • The collection has been categorised under 24 broad subject wise collections. To browse the Catalogue by Collection, click on the link given on the left and click on ‘Collection’ tab.
  • On left hand side of the search results, authors and subjects forming part of the search results are displayed.
  • Each collection has been further subdivided into more specific subjects. Click on the sub-topics and the books under that topic will be displayed.
• Search by Library Sections
  • The library collection has been organised under 10 major sections that include key sections of Bhavans like KM Munshi publications and Bhavan's publications and some specialised sections like Indology, Gandhian, Zoroastrian, etc.
  • In addition to the above there are sections for Individual Philosophers, Reference, Popular reading, etc. to cater to users with various needs.
  • To browse the Catalogue by Section, click on the link given on the left and click on ‘Shelving Locations’ tab.
  • On left hand side of the search results, authors and subjects forming part of the search results are displayed.
  • Each section has been further subdivided into more specific subjects. Click on the sub-topics and the books under that topic will be displayed.
• Search by Author
  • The Catalogue may be searched by author names. Please enter the name in the format - Surname, First Name in the search box on Koha
• Search by Keywords
  • In addition to the above, the catalogue may be searched by entering keywords in the search window and selecting specific field from the drop down list – Title, Author, Subject, ISBN, Series, Call Number.
• Search by Language
  • The catalogue has books in English, Gujarati, Sanskrit, Hindi and Marathi. Respective language books may be searched by selecting the language option from the drop down list.
• General Guidelines
  • On left hand side of the search results, authors and subjects forming part of the search results are displayed.
  • Each may be clicked to further refine and limit search results.
  • Clicking on author or subject will return books by that author or books categorised under that subject.
  • Clicking on a search result will give more information about the book
  • A new search may be started by entering new keywords in the search window.
